MY “AHA” MOMENT
Part need for the products, part desire to do more with my life led me to pursue this venture. I am a bit disenchanted with healthcare and education. I love coming up with practical solutions in the therapy world. I have talked about ideas for a long time now, but the real kicker might have been when Under Armour came out with their one handed zipper. It was an idea my brother and I had thrown around many times. I am excited to start a business to eventually support my family and provide opportunity to meet the needs of others.
THE BIG IDEA
Therapy products: One provides calming feedback to children and adults with sensory processing issues allowing them to better function and focus throughout their day while looking “normal”. Another provides activities to increase dexterity skills which is needed as children enter school with increased demands and often less developed muscles than in the past.
WHY MY IDEA IS BETTER THAN THE REST
Both of my ideas have been tested in the setting for which they are appropriate. I have many teachers using them, loving them and don’t know of a similar product in the way it is packaged.
THE SKY’S THE LIMIT
Funds will be spent to get this business established. Next steps are figuring out a name, determining what type of business, buying materials, figuring out a marketing plan, and opting in to the CMURC resources. I am headed toward being a successful business owner who happens to be an occupational therapist. I have many other ideas besides the first two.
