If you are looking for customized wedding and event cinematography, the owner and CEO of Bella Reel, Chelsey Kimbrough, is the one to talk to. Kimbrough is a Central Michigan University senior who credits her company’s growing success to the university’s New Venture Competition and the CMURC Right Choice Program.
Kimbrough competed in the 2012 and 2013 CMU College of Business Administration’s Isabella Bank Institute for Entrepreneurship New Venture Competition. In 2012, Bella Reel was eliminated in the first round of competition. However, the expert feedback she received from the judges resulted in more than $13,000 of additional sales the next year.
After the competition, Bella Reel was invited by the local business accelerator and incubator, CMURC, to apply for their competitive Right Choice Program, which takes entrepreneurs from concept to the marketplace in a three-phased approach.
“The Right Choice Program was the perfect next step for my company,” Kimbrough said. “I believe this real world experience has made my business foundation stronger and my chance for success even greater.”
CMURC is currently facilitating connections with vendors throughout the state of Michigan as well as analyzing the needs of the expanding Bella Reel team.
“There is power in combining education and real world experience, and Bella Reel is a proven success that they go hand-in-hand,” CMURC president and CEO Erin O’Brien said.
CMURC continues to combine education and real world experience by pairing entrepreneurs with both undergraduate and graduate level course projects. Entrepreneurs have received student services ranging from public relations strategies and prototyping to marketing plans and corporate videos.
CMURC is a nonprofit business incubator focused on advancing economic development in the community by leveraging the resources of Central Michigan University, the Mount Pleasant SmartZone and its local, regional and statewide partners to accelerate the success of entrepreneurs, growing businesses and jobs. CMURC is a single source of contact providing physical space and essential business services that supports emerging businesses.
