MY “AHA” MOMENT
My goal has always been to apply technology to improve the human condition. For this improvement to be sustainable the solution must also bring value that people are willing to pay for. Supplying the ability to compatibilized a mixed plastic waste stream in a cost-effective manner would provide value and tremendous benefit to the world.
THE BIG IDEA
After spending hours watching a customer struggling to meter liquids into their wiring cable extrusion line I realized there must be a better way to enable these companies to meet all their performance specifications. Then last year a new company appeared on my radar who is manufacturing and selling porous polymers ideally suited for carrying low viscosity additives into thermoplastic melts. This method provides an ideal way to put compatibilizer into a mixed plastic in which the plastics are incompatible; like oil and water, and get them to blend.
WHY MY IDEA IS BETTER THAN THE REST
Savanture is representing a EU manufactuing company in the US market. This supplier has developed innovative technology to create a broad range of additives for thermoplastics. In particular the porous polymers allows customization locally to meet the needs of each individual project at a molder or extrusion manufacturing firm. This is also an example of how smart people develop solutions for needs in one geography which can then be translated into useful applications in another geography.
THE SKY’S THE LIMIT
The initial investment would be to bring in a few pallets of thermoplastic additives with a broad range of products. These products would then be made available for sampling to customers. Once the business is generating revenue it will become a stocking warehouse which would buy and resell products. Customized solutions would be provided by manufacturing partners. With continued financial success, process equipment would be added to provide in-house customized solutions and testing capabilities. Finally, a second full polymer manufacturing facility would be established in North America to serve the vast market here.
