The single-serve pack coffee industry is growing rapidly. Since 2009, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters K-Cup sales have skyrocketed at a pace of 70% per annum, amounting to billions of K-Cup produced and sold annually - that’s enough plastic, according to one blogger, to cover the surface of the earth! While this is great for coffee-lovers across the world who enjoy a consistent, fresh, convenient cup of coffee, it is terrible for the environment.
THE BIG IDEA:
To solve this rapidly growing issue, I have created a practical, convenient way to reduce growing K-Cup waste in the form of a simple hand-held tool, the Kutter, by Eco Perk LLC. The Kutter, found conveniently in the coffee aisle at your local convenience store, at Amazon.com or at recyclekcups.net/store, solves the problem of breaking K-Cups into individually recyclable components by allowing the user to easily pierce the foil top of the K-cup and twist, thus breaking the foil, paper filter and allowing the user to compost the paper and grounds, and recycle the foil and plastic components separately.
WHY THIS IDEA IS BETTER THAN THE REST:
If even 5% of the K-Cup market utilized the Kutter, it would reduce (conservatively), landfill waste by four thousand tons. The cutter is affordable, durable, recyclable, dishwasher safe and easy to store.
THE SKY'S THE LIMIT:
With funds raised, I am looking to file a provisional patent, Produce 50 prototypes , create a product video and websitand run an AdWords test campaign. Stop feeling bad about drinking what you love!
