MY “AHA” MOMENT
GCI Water Solutions started in 2015 in the brain of Josh Lauderman as he listened to a speaker discuss the production water issues in the oil and gas industry. There was a massive problem of an over abundance of production water coming from oil and gas wells with very few sustainable and cost effective solutions for oil and gas operators. With over 30 Billion barrels produced annually (2018) we found that if there was a solution to this problem there was a massive market to tap into.
THE BIG IDEA
With the problem of no cost effective or sustainable solutions we dissected various samples of production water from different geographical formations to figure out exactly what was in the water to help us design the process. We designed our "BlackStorm" unit which we built our pilot in 2016 trying to prove proof of concept. With successful results from our Beta unit we built out our beta unit into a small scale commercialized unit in that has generated ~200K trailing 12MO revenue since 2018.
WHY MY IDEA IS BETTER THAN THE REST
The primary advantage of our process is that our process treats the water well enough to discharge into the environment via a DEP permit issued in 2018. 99% of our competition can only treat for re-use. We have recently partnered with a desalination company who is building a non-thermal unit to separate water from salt. We would be the second company to remove the salts from this water giving us a major competitive advantage as we will be able to treat unlimited amounts of water.
THE SKY’S THE LIMIT
With the water treatment aspect of our business figured out, we are currently working on how to take the waste from our water and turn it into marketable by products. Specifically we are working on refining the Sodium Chloride. We would use these funds for R&D to learn how to purify this salt for use in things like road spreading in winter or chlor alkali as sodium chloride is the raw material as this would nearly double our potential annual revenues and turn our waste into revenue.
