MY "AHA" MOMENT
With Michigan becoming known nation wide for producing wine, I still had to travel 2 ½ hours to visit wine country. I knew I wasn’t the only one as my conversations with wineries in Traverse City revealed that quite a few people from my hometown made the same 2 ½ hour trip regularly to visit wineries and drink good wine. I knew there had to be another option. Then my grandparents revealed that they may have to sell the farm as there was no one left in the family to farm it.
THE BIG IDEA
With my grandparents probably having to sell the farm and me wanting to keep it in the family but not grow cash crops, this would be the perfect place for vineyard/winery. Soil is perfect composition for grapes, wide open field for extending periods of sunlight, and right next to a river for irrigation.
WHY MY IDEA IS BETTER THAN THE REST
My primary goal is to create great quality wine of all different types and shorten the drive for wine lovers. The grapes will be 100% estate grown on a family owned centennial farm. Wine will be in traditional French style.
THE SKY'S THE LIMIT
I will use the funds generated to purchase equipment, vines and trellis supplies.
