Runway Avenue was started back in February 2015. Since our inception, fashion has always been our focus; from assisting department stores from selling their numerous unsold inventories at sharp markdowns to helping women’s clothing boutiques discover new customers and reduce their unsold inventory. But with a crucial entrepreneurial pivot back in October 2015, Runway Avenue realized that the greatest opportunity to make an impact was in helping aspiring fashion designers build their brands, which RWA felt represented the greatest need.
THE BIG IDEA:
Three notions drive why Runway Avenue exists today and why it is needed:
1. Despite the immense amount of fashion designer talent, especially in Michigan, there is not a direct path to beginning a fashion business.
2. It has been incredibly challenging for aspiring fashion designers to attract and retain customers, while also building their brands.
3. Currently, fashion-forward shoppers are presented with very limited options in their quest for couture/ “customer made” clothing.
WHY IS THIS IDEA BETTER THAN THE REST:
Runway Avenue is building a concentrated online community/platform where aspiring fashion designers will be able to list and sell their merchandise with affiliate and influential fashion bloggers writing, posting and sharing the merchandise and stories of these designers for commission, thus helping to build each other’s brands, reputation and customer/viewer base; while fashion-forward shoppers submit requests and orders for custom made clothing to these aspiring designers.
THE SKY'S THE LIMIT:
With the funds raised and platform fully functional, we can ramp up our marketing and advertising efforts, by contracting with influential video bloggers (vloggers) & creating targeted Facebook and Instagram ads to promote Runway Avenue and our community of aspiring fashion designers. Anticipated launch- February 2016.
