Central Michigan University Board of Trustees approved the appointment of two new members to the CMURC Board of Directors.
Wingspan Group Co-founder and Managing Partner Ray Gunn and CMU Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services Steven Johnson will be the newest members to join the board this June.
Gunn has more than 35 years of executive leadership experience in public and private companies – from initial public offerings to mergers and entrepreneurial operations. Before co-founding Wingspan Group, he served in critical roles and at the helm of several successful technology and medical device companies.
“An entrepreneur's journey varies based on what they are trying to accomplish, and Gunn has firsthand experience.” President + CEO of CMURC Erin Strang said. “His experience is invaluable for our organization as we evolve our programs and cowork space.”
The pair bring to the table decades of experience in finance, partnership-building, business development, and student connectivity.
Strang continues, “Beyond the accelerator functions, CMURC is also focused on the Mt. Pleasant SmartZone District development which has amazing opportunities to incorporate corporate partnerships, real-world experience, and a sense of place for CMU students, which is why Johnson was a natural fit.”
Johnson has devoted more than 30 years to improving student enrollment in higher education through collaboration with faculty, staff and other stakeholders in his role at Central Michigan University, Howard University, and more. He has been recognized as a leader who brings an entrepreneurial approach to education administration, identifying opportunities to bring together systems and organizations.
The two will join 12 fellow board members including the re-appointed of CMU VP of Government and External Relations Kathy Wilbur, CMU College of Business Dean Charles Crespy, and the Mt. Pleasant City Manager, Nancy Ridley.
