New leadership will ignite student collaboration with SmartZone

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich., June 25, 2020 —Central Michigan University Board of Trustees approved the appointment of four new members to the CMURC Board of Directors.
CMU Vice President of Research and Innovation David Weindorf, CMU Vice President of Finance and Administrative Services Nicholas K. Long, CMU Senior Vice Provost Ray Christie and CMU Interim Dean/College of Science and Engineering Jane Davison will be the newest members to join the board.

The four new appointees will bring a fresh perspective in addition to enhancing community engagement through their leadership positions at Central Michigan University. Beyond the CMURC accelerator and CoWork programs, the Mt Pleasant SmartZone District development is on the horizon which is positioned to create opportunities between industry and the University.

The SmartZone’s were created to focus technology clusters to promote resource collaborations between universities, industry, research organizations, government and other community institutions, growing technology-based businesses and jobs.

Recognizing the significance of proven partnerships from corporate organizations, it is important to maintain CMURC’s connectivity with the private sector. William Kimbell, Private Sector Director, will also be reappointed with another term.

“By connecting the strong intellectual talent of CMU and industry partners, there are great opportunities to include innovative partnerships and real-world experience,” President + CEO of CMURC Erin Strang said. “As we plan for a 300-acre mixed-use research park development, the importance of continuous innovation and collaboration is critical.”

The appointees will join CMU members: President Dr. Robert O. Davies, Trustee and Michigan Chamber of Commerce President Richard Studley, Interim Vice President for Government and External Relations Toby Roth, College of Business Dean Chris Moberg. Along with joining the private sector members: Executive Director of Global Manufacturing Engineering for Nexteer Automotive Daniel Dralle, Vice President of Administration for Glastender Inc. Kimberly Norris, Director of State Government Affairs for Dow Jeff Stoutenburg, CEO of Blake’s Cider Mill Raymond Gunn and City of Mt Pleasant City Manager Nancy Ridley.
