GCI WATER SOLUTIONS NAMED "2018 SMARTZONE BEST SMALL BUISNESS OF THE YEAR"- Press Release
January 2, 2019

Central Michigan University Research Corporation names GCI Water Solutions as the 2018 SmartZone Small Business of the Year; honoring co-founders Mike Schuette and Josh Lauderman for their tenacious entrepreneurial spirit.

“GCI Water Solutions came to CMURC while in the early development phase. By utilizing surrounding resources and funding opportunities, they progressed into a full-scale facility,” said Erin Strang, president and CEO of Central Michigan University Research Corporation. “The persistence and dedication of these entrepreneurs is why they were chosen for this honor.”

As one of 20 Michigan SmartZones, CMURC is able to highlight the entrepreneurs at the annual Michigan Celebrates Small Business Awards.

This puts Schuette and Lauderman among the elite group of past award recipients. In addition to this honor, they will be in consideration for the Michigan SmartZone Best Small Business Award which goes to a company that must exemplify technological sophistication, market potential and demonstrated growth through technology commercialization.

Schuette and Lauderman have a passion for sustainability. With their strong engineering background and entrepreneurial drive, they continue to grow and work toward purifying the world’s most precious resource – water.

At this year’s Michigan Celebrates Small Business Awards, one business will be chosen as the Michigan SmartZone Best Small Business of the Year. On May 8, all SmartZone Best Small Businesses will be recognized at the awards gala in Lansing.
