Employers who require drug testing for job applicants or after on-the-job accidents often have to wait extended periods of time for results.
Drug testing can also be costly for employers.
Police officers are also at the mercy of crime labs to determine the presence of drugs when more is needed than field testing.
Technology has come that will give employers and law enforcement access to on-site screening that will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Kristine Card, co-owner and co-founder of Great Lakes Mobile Drug Testing, worked with the Central Michigan University Research Corp. to bring the business to life.
Great Lakes Mobile Drug Testing began offering on-site testing with same-day, after hours or weekend availability in Michigan in 2013.
Those tests include DOT testing services, rapid drug screens that provide instant negative results, EBT alcohol tests, hair and saliva tests and other options for employers.
Great Lakes Mobile Drug Testing is working with employers to make these services available any time of day or night for random, pre-employment, reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing throughout the state.
“Because we’re right there on-site, employees are only off the floor an average of 10 minutes per person,” Card said. “That’s a significant cost savings versus each person driving out to a clinic for testing.”
Sites in mid-Michigan are in Farwell, Harrison, Clare, Alma, St. Louis, Ithaca, Elwell, Breckenridge, Middleton, Mt. Pleasant, Lake Isabella, Shepherd and Rosebush, according to the company’s website.
Rapid success and the demand for GLMDT services led to a partnership with Southwest Florida Onsite Drug Testing to form Compass Drug Screening last year, according to Erin Strang, president and CEO of the CMU RC.
Partnering with clients to increase safety, productivity and profitability, the team works through Drug Free Workplace program development and management.
They provide employers with access to a network of testing sites covering the entire United States, allowing employers with more than one location to more easily manage their programs, Card said.
“Business owners and HR managers have so much on their plates today that it’s tough to coordinate employee drug testing, much less develop a drug-free workplace program,” Card said. “Now, we do it all for you.”
