Erin Strang Named Distinguished Alumnus of Lake Superior State University

Lake Superior State University’s Lukenda School of Business has presented its 2023 Distinguished Alumni Award to Erin Strang, president and CEO of Central Michigan University Research Corporation (CMURC).

The Lukenda School of Business Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes the personal and professional accomplishments of alumni who are leaders and set an inspiring example for students. As a highly accomplished graduate of the university, Erin Strang's success at CMURC and her commitment to the business community make her a deserving recipient of this prestigious award.

Strang’s tenure with CMURC began in 2009. Under her leadership, CMURC has been recognized through the State of Michigan as one of the top performing business accelerators and has expanded to four coworking spaces across the Great Lakes Bay Region. Recently, CMURC was awarded the InBIA Julius Morgan Diversity and Inclusion Award for its commitment to promoting equitable and accessible entrepreneurial ecosystems.

"I greatly admire and appreciate Erin's outstanding leadership of CMURC,” said CMU President Bob Davies, chairperson of the CMURC Board of Directors. “Her passionate commitment to entrepreneurship has bolstered the success of hundreds of small businesses in our community, creating thousands of jobs and bringing millions of dollars in capital investment to our area. Her efforts have positively impacted individuals and communities throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region."

In addition to her professional achievements, Erin Strang is an active member of the business community. She has served on multiple Chamber of Commerce and nonprofit boards, currently serves on the Executive Board of the Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance and is a mentor to young entrepreneurs. Her commitment to giving back to the community is a testament to her character and leadership.

Strang was honored at the school’s annual graduate recognition dinner on April 22. To get involved with CMURC’s programs and coworking space, visit cmurc.com.
