MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich., June 16, 2021 — Accelerated Filtration Inc., a high-tech water filtration company, will begin commercializing the AFX filter in the Great Lakes Bay Region. The AFX filter is a product that filters water streams that are loaded with fine suspended solids, enabling recycling and reuse of nearly all water sources without the use of chemicals.
“It is estimated that by 2030, 40% of our global water withdrawals will come from unreliable and unsustainable sources,” said Scott Burr, President + CEO of Accelerated Filtration Inc. “We are grateful for the services provided as it will help us develop and commercialize a filtration product to assist in solving this global water problem while building a team headquartered in this region.”
The commercialization of the AFX filter will be made possible through services provided by Central Michigan University Research Corporation (CMURC), in partnership with the Midland Business Alliance (MBA) as part of the Michigan SmartZone network. CMURC and the MBA were awarded $29,259 in Business Accelerator Funds (BAF) to provide
additional professional services on behalf of client company Accelerated Filtration Inc.
“Supporting innovation and entrepreneurship is crucial for the growth and vibrancy of any community,” said Tony Stamas, President + CEO of MBA. “We are thrilled that Accelerated Filtration Inc. has made Midland its home with game-changing technology that will have a positive impact on the entire Great Lakes Bay Region.”
Only Michigan-based businesses will be utilized to create the AFX filter. The completion of the services will give Accelerated Filtration Inc. the ability to raise venture capital funding, visit distributors and end customers, and accelerate the time to revenue by six to nine months by allowing the company to make forward progress simultaneous with fundraising.
“Accelerated Filtration Inc. brings a unique value proposition to the table with new, innovative technology that will disrupt the filtration market,” said Erin Strang, President + CEO of CMURC, “Collaborating with the SBDC, MEDC and MBA to support a local early-stage technology company will surely elevate this enterprise, making it possible for new jobs and investment in our region.”
The services, made possible by the BAF, come from a pool of funds available to Michigan SmartZone’s to provide specialized services to early-stage companies commercializing advanced technology. The program is administered by the Michigan Small Business Development Center (MI-SBDC) in partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).
